  • Zhou Yixiu: Director of the Foundation of Intercultural Participation of Chinese Families. Master of Supply Chain Management from Rotterdam RSM School of Management .

  • Personal property manager, settlement consultant for new immigrants, Master of Supply Chain Management from Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University, the Netherlands.

  • "In 2005, after graduating from a bachelor's degree in business administration in China, I came to the Netherlands to continue my studies and studied for a master's degree in supply chain management. After graduation, I worked in a multinational agricultural company in planning, purchasing and imported food logistics management. At that time, the work pace was fast and stressful. I also experienced cross-cultural workplace shocks and found it difficult to maintain a balance between family, health and career. Three years later, after careful consideration, I resigned. After that, my husband and I jointly ran a consulting company, providing Dutch investment consulting services to Chinese SMEs, assisting them in establishing subsidiaries in the Netherlands and providing administrative management services during the start-up phase, and helping expatriate employees immigrate and settle down.

  • For more than ten years, I have helped many new immigrant families integrate into life in the Netherlands, including property purchase, Dutch language learning, school selection for employees' children, etc. I have served as an interpreter for various meetings, and the age range of the expatriate children I served ranged from newborns to college students.

  • During this process, I witnessed the various difficulties that children from new immigrant families experienced, such as adapting to a new environment and a new language, having difficulty making new friends, and enduring tremendous pressure and loneliness; some of them even had to take on the task of being a family translator to help their parents solve various problems in life. I was moved by the children's courage and growth.

  • I am the mother of three girls. They were born and raised in the Netherlands and also faced various challenges, including misunderstanding and disagreement with their parents' opinions due to cultural differences between China and the Netherlands, identity confusion, discrimination and bullying in school, etc. As parents, my husband and I once lacked parenting knowledge and experience, lacked patience, had too high expectations for our children, and held unequal and disrespectful attitudes. Faced with endless parenting problems and escalating conflicts, we used to feel troubled, anxious and under great psychological pressure. In the past five years, we have received social support and parental healing in many aspects. We have learned to know ourselves, learn to be awakened parents, accept it calmly, no longer be anxious, and enjoy parent-child time and every moment.

  • After going through all this, I took the initiative to join the Dutch Chinese Children's Foundation and volunteered to share my parenting experience with more people, hoping to help others avoid detours. I am good at coordination and external relations, and I volunteered to use my long-term work experience and social relationships to better support the development of the foundation's various activities. I hope that through the efforts of our team, we can organize various activities that are beneficial to Chinese families and children, and help the Dutch Chinese to enhance family harmony and cultural belonging. ”
